Murphy Bridle Path

The epicenter of North Central is focused around the Murphy Bridle Path.  The iconic shaded gravel path running North and South on Central Avenue is rich with history.  The path first came about in 1920’s when cars started taking place of the horses on the street.  The horses were forced to start using the East side of the road instead. The earliest mention of the Murphy Bridle Path was in 1948 when it was dedicated by the Arizona Hose Lovers Club.  The name “Murphy” stems from William J Murphy.  William J Murphy was a developer who moved from Illinois in the 1880’s and helped build the canal system in Arizona.  William J Murphy is credited with planting the Ash and Olive trees along Central Ave that still stand and provide shade to the path today.

The unique calling cards for this area are the large irrigated lots and the traditional single story ranch homes.  This combo is prevalent in the majority of the neighborhoods throughout the area.  As you look at homes for sale in North Central, you will notice a large majority were built in the 1950’s. exterior finish is very common to these homes.  Although the brick ranch homes are surely the most well-known style many other styles of homes do exist.  As of late, many renovations and new micro-divisions have offered Mediterranean and even contemporary styled homes.

Between 7th Street and 7th avenue (aka “7 to 7” or “the sevens”) is the most desirable area.  However extending your home search beyond these boundaries a few more streets should do the trick as well.  Homes for sale on Central can demand the greatest value, and it’s easy to see why.  The large majority of homes with a few exceptions are in the popular Madison school district, which makes it a great landing spot for families with Children.  Working parents have just a 10 minute drive into downtown from here.
