Roughly bounded by Mcdowell Rd. to the South and Indian School Rd. to the north, the hub of Midtown Phoenix are the high rise buildings flanking Central Avenue.  In the business sense, the area is known as the financial district.  For housing, much of the surrounding area is historic designated.  There are a total of 35 historic districts in Phoenix.  Many of the smaller lesser known districts are right here in midtown such as Ashland Place, Alvarado, East Alvarado, La Hacienda, Country Club Manor, and Campus Vista.

Midtown offers a variety of housing, from the aforementioned historic communities, to newer high rise condo living.  Tapestry on Central is a large 7 story multi building condo complex directly across from the Heard Museum and backed to the Willo Historic District. Just one block south of Tapestry is the Phoenix Art Museum.  With light rail system out front of Tapestry on Central, commuting to downtown is a breeze. The complex itself offers all the amenities you need – a fitness center, sauna, movie room, clubhouse and pool and spa.  It’s easy to see why the complex is so popular.

The Melrose District in Midtown is another pedestrian friendly area including shops, restaurants, nightlife and art galleries. Focused around the intersection of 7th Ave and Indian School, businesses and shops in Melrose District tend to be more eclectic than other areas of Central Phoenix. You just never know what you might find!

Steele Indian School Park in the Midtown area is rich with history and tradition.  The park is where the original Phoenix Indian School was located in the late 1800’s.  Phoenix Indian School was quite literally what it sound like – a boarding school operated by the government who would send Native Americans to become familiar with the culture of the Euro-Americans.  The school was used into the 1980’s when eventually it was deemed no longer necessary and closed.  In 2001 it became a public park.  Many of the structures and original buildings (now deemed historic) are being renovated for future preservation.
