With a name synonymous to the development and success of Phoenix’s early days, Dwight Bancroft Heard is responsible for creating the upscale subdivision known as Palmcroft. Heard’s investment company purchased 80 acres of land north of McDowell Rd between Seventh Ave and 15th Ave with the intentions of building the community in the early 1900’s. At the time, there was no other community where a buyer could find large scale elegance and class where each home was fully customizable.
The first home in Palmcroft was built in 1927, with other homes soon to follow. However the great depression slowed the progress of the community and many homes were not completed until later on in the 30’s. The development of the Palmcroft community occurred in two phases. The second phase was originally developed in Encanto, therefore taking on the Encanto-Palmcroft name.
Today, Encanto-Palmcroft remains one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Phoenix. The famous Palmcroft “Circle” provides a picturesque setting of the simpler times when the community was first established. Lined with palm trees and green lawns, the homeowners in Palmcroft do a fantastic job at keeping up with the historic spirit that lives on in this community.
Home prices in the Encanto-Palmcroft community range greatly due to the various sizes, architecture, and integrity of the homes. Homes can be found anywhere from $300k to over $1 million , although the majority are priced between $350k-$600k. There is not a high volume of turnover in this neighborhood, keeping prices and demand at a premium.
